3 juveniles Snow Geese in Adachiku ( Arakawa River ), Tokyo.
It takes about 20 minutes walk from Kitasenju Station, to the watching spot of the Snow Geese, Arakawa Kasen-shiki Undo-jo. The geese are young and very friendly and no cautious. I suppose that they have grew up somewhere in captivity....
Saitama Branch of Wild bird Society of Japan had the first meeting of young birder on 19th December. The event was not only for young, but also elders. "Young" means beginner in this case. It was new challenge for the Branch to make birdwatching popular for new parson.
The event has already planned next, 2016. 20th Feb, at Shibayama Chosei ike regulating pond. Please enjoy the event if you are happy.
Narrow white line on the breast of the teal in Isa-numa pond in Saitama pref. Possibly Green-winged teal. However I also need to think about hybrid between common teal because of some eclipse plumage on. I will come again and hope to see an obvious white vertical line when he has got a perfect feather!
A young peregrine was mobbed by jungle crows. When peregrine flied, crows were chasing as well as they could. However the peregrine made a distance with smooth wing beat. Falcon is truly king of birds!
Migrating hobby was flying near my house, Chiko-zan Koen Park. It was very rare!
Chiko-zan koen Park in Saitama is good place to enjoy birding near Tokyo.
Comfortable foot path in coppice and along some ponds in the park. The best season is winter, great tit, goldcrest, pale thrush, dusky thrush, brown-headed thrush, bull-headed shrike, brown-eared bulbul among the trees, also wigeon, mallard, spot-billed duck, teal, heron, common kingfisher and little grebe in the pond. It will be easy to find White's Thrush on the ground after snowing. Migrating birds will also visit, like flycatchers and warblers, for example.
It takes about 1 hour from Seibu-Shinjuku Station to Sayamashi Station by express, and transfer to Seibu-Bus for Chikozan Koen.
Izu-numa and Uchi-numa marsh is one of the most important wintering Anseriformes in North East Japan. It is said that 80,000-130,000 white-fronted geese, bean geese, Aleutian canada geese, lesser white-fronted geese and snow geese. Of course you can enjoy them day-time in rice paddles around the marsh, I recommend you to see huge number of geese of the roosting (sunrise and sunset). It will be unforgettable opportunity for you!
While I was in U.K as an international student, British people taught me that it is the most important for us to keep thinking people who are in sadness.
I would like to ask you to think Nepal people, one time per one day. Even though it is impossible to reach Nepal actually because of far away, please do not forget your warm heart has free wings to fly all over the world.
Please mind them one time a day, like you did when Japan has serious disaster 2011.3.11. I believe that all Japanese and Nepal people have also grateful for your kindness, and I hope you and the people meet and shake hand someday.
When I came back to car parking after researching birds, I met a couple from U.S.A. We had a chat for a while and they talked about the beauty of Japanese nature, wonderful time to be able to watch a lot of kind of butterfly and to listen nice bird songs around there. I am still feeling very happy and I want to do same when I go to their country someday.
I am looking forward to meeting again or receiving a contact from them before they leave Japan!
